What Fictional Anime/Manga Tech Would You Want the Most?
One of the best things about anime and manga is the sheer level of imagination of offer. While fantasy and the supernatural certainly hold an important part in our hearts, today we want to talk about technology.
Specifically, we want to cover the age-old question of what fictional technological elements would we like to have in our own lives the most?
Probably the most obvious choice, but that doesn’t mean the idea is any less appealing. Giant fighting mechs like Gundam have been a staple of anime and manga for generations, and we’ve always loved the idea of being to pilot one for ourselves.
Flying through space, shooting lasers, and cutting through mountains with energy swords is an easy sell, even though the practical use in our world might not be so great. We’d really have to worry about accidentally standing on people, ruining power and water lines, and generally leaving an enormous infrastructure bill wherever we went, but then they’d have to stop us first.
The current VR which we have in the real world is already pretty impressive, but it’s nothing compared that on offer from series like SWORD ART ONLINE. In effect, this would allow us the ability to live out any type of game we wanted from within the world, from the real to the fantastic and everything in between.
Want to play tennis with somebody across the world? Go ahead, no problem. Heck, do it in outer space while in the middle of an intergalactic war, it’s all up for grabs. Want to keep it more traditional? Traditional online casinos have been available since before the new millennium, and they already offer bonuses and offers which aren’t available in physical locations. Drop this into a classy virtual arena and sign us up.
Want to drop the pretense of reality completely? MMORPGs would be our personal first choice. Though, chances are that we would end up spending a few months on the character creation screen before actually jumping into the real game.
Actual, Factual Holograms
Holograms are the type of thing which we really thought would have been further along by now. Instead of the limited displays of today, what we want is access to the amazingly realistic (in the anime, so we would assume in real life) hologram technology from the likes of Yu-Gi-Oh.
These card games are enough fun even playing analog, so the ability to see our creature really come to life and blast virtual attacks at our friends’ monsters is an opportunity far too appealing to pass by.
Of course, we would probably have to take a couple of drama classes so that we could capture the necessary level of gravitas and overly expressive hand-gestures but, hey, they’re part of the game for a reason.
So what do you think of our list, and which technology would from anime and manga would you want to draw into real life?
