STRAYER’S CHRONICLE: New Film from the Makers of DEATH NOTE and GANTZ
Warner Bros. Pictures Japan and Nippon Television Network have provided information and high-res photos for their new science fiction adventure, STRAYER’S CHRONICLE (ストレイヤーズ・クロニクル, Sutoreiyaazu Kuronikuru). The film will open in Japan on Saturday, June 27, 2015.
Two groups with superhuman powers are destined to collide.
Who will prevail? Hope or despair?
The film adaptation is directed by Takahisa Zeze, world renowned director of HEAVEN’S STORY (ヘヴンズ ストーリー, Hevunzu Sutorii) which won the International Federation of Film Critics Award at the Berlin International Film Festival. The ultimate production crew, including Cinematographer Ryuto Kondo, Action Director Yuji Shimomura (GANTZ, LIBRARY WARS), and Light Director Isamu Fujii, known for the participating Moscow International Film Festival Official Selection Film MY MAN (私の男, Watashi no Otoko, 2014), has rallied around director Zeze to take on this ambitious challenge.
Shota Sometani (THE KIYOSU CONFERENCE, TOKYO TRIBE, PARASYTE) plays Manabu, leader of the other group of children whose powers were derived from genetic manipulation. Sometani won the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best New Talent at the Venice International Film Festival for his chilling performance in the film HIMIZU (ヒミズ, 2012).
“Can humans control their own evolution?”
In the early 1990’s, a top secret organization conducted an experiment to test that theory. Two methods were selected. One stimulated the secretion of abnormal hormones by subjecting the brains of expectant mothers to tremendous stress. The resulting mutations engendered children with extraordinary powers beyond the limits of normal human abilities. The other method involved genetic manipulation and implantation using animal and insect DNA. The subject mothers gave birth to children with entirely different yet equally powerful abilities.
The two sets of children grew up separately, and their paths diverged. The first set embraced hope, and used their powers to benefit the future of mankind. The other set was consumed by despair and would try to destroy the world with their powers. Each set relied only on their own group, but destiny brought them together.
As dark forces vie to harness their power, their battle will determine the future of mankind!
