On November 10th, Tsuburaya Productions announced the next Ultraman film, ULTRAMAN GINGA S THE MOVIE, will be released on Saturday, March 14, 2015. Based on the current ULTRAMAN GINGA S (ウルトラマンギンガS, Urutoraman Ginga S) television series, the movie features the show’s heroes Ultraman Ginga and Ultraman Victory alongside the “New Generation” of Ultra Warriors — Ultraman Tiga, Ultraman Dyna, Ultraman Gaia, Ultraman Cosmos, Ultraman Nexus, Ultraman Max, Ultraman Mebius and Ultraman Zero (in his first appearance in the ULTRAMAN GINGA franchise).
ULTRAMAN GINGA S THE MOVIE stars Takuya Negishi as Hikaru Raido (Ultraman Ginga) and Kiyotaka Uji as Shou (Ultraman Victory), who are challenged by a new enemy when a time-shifting, inter-dimensional castle appears on Earth. The fortress is the home of Alena, a new female warrior played Arisa Komiya — best known to tokusatsu fans as Yoko Usami (Yellow Buster) in Toei’s Super Sentai series GO-BUSTERS (特命戦隊ゴーバスターズ, Tokumei Sentai Goobasutaazu, 2012-2013) — who has trapped several other Ultramen with a magical mirror. Their efforts to free their fellow Ultra Warriors and protect Earth are aided by Musashi Haruno/Ultraman Cosmos (once again played by Taiyo Suigura) and the special investigation team UPG (Ultra Party Guardians) from the GINGA S series.
Director Koichi Sakamoto also directed the ULTRAMAN GINGA S television series. His film credits include MEGA MONSTER BATTLE ULTRA GALAXY: THE MOVIE (大怪獣バトル ウルトラ銀河伝説 THE MOVIE, Daikaiju Batoru Urutora Ginga Densetsu THE MOVIE, 2009), 009-1 CYBORG: THE END OF THE BEGINNING (009ノ1 ゼロゼロクノイチ THE END OF THE BEGINNING, 009ノ1 Zero Zero Kunoichi THE END OF THE BEGINNING, 2013) and multiple Kamen Rider movies.
The film’s screenplay is by Yuji Kobayashi and Takao Nakano. Nakano has written and directed a number of horror and sci-fi films such as BIG TITS ZOMBIE (巨乳ドラゴン 温泉ゾンビVSストリッパー5, Kyonyuu Doragon: Onsen Zonbi Tai Sutorippaa 5, 2010) while Kobayashi is a veteran of the Ultra Series with credits on ULTRA Q: DARK FANTASY (ウルトラQ dark fantasy, Urutora Kyuu: Daaku Fantajii, 2004), ULTRAMAN MAX (ウルトラマンマックス, Urutoraman Makkusu, 2005-2006), ULTRAMAN MEBIUS (ウルトラマンメビウス, Urutoraman Mebiusu, 2006-2007), ULTRAMAN MEBIUS SIDE STORY: HIKARI SAGA (ウルトラマンメビウス外伝 ヒカリサーガ, Urutoraman Mebiusu Gaiden Hikarisaaga, 2006), ULTRASEVEN X ウルトラセブン エックス, (Urutorasebun Ekkusu, 2007) and MEGA MONSTER BATTLE ULTRA GALAXY: THE MOVIE.
The theme, “Song of the Hero” (英雄の詩(うた), Eiyuu no Uta), was created by Toshihiko Takamizawa from the popular band THE ALFEE. Takamizawa has composed themes for the ULTRAMAN GINGA show and was music director for the live concert ULTRAMAN ROCK DAY 5 ― GALAXY LEGEND ― held in March 2014.
With children the primary intended audience, ULTRAMAN GINGA S THE MOVIE has an “easy to watch” running time of approximately 60 minutes.
