A new sister with a chastity belt?
Cranky baby sister, rookie big brother and a girl ghost take us to a fetish world we have never seen before…
Kadokawa will bring their controversial but popular Recently, My Sister is Unusual. (最近、妹のようすがちょっとおかしいんだが。, Saikin, Imooto no Yoosu ga Chotto Okashiin Da Ga.) manga and anime series to cinemas with a live-action feature film adaptation, opening May 17th in Japan. The movie is being marketed internationally by Kadokawa with the English title WHAT’S GOING ON WITH MY SISTER?
Created by Mari Matsuzawa, Recently, My Sister is Unusual. — also known by the nickname ImoCho — debuted in the November 9, 2010 issue of Monthly Dragon Age (月刊ドラゴンエイジ, Gekkan Doragon Eiji) from Kadokawa’s Fujimi Shobo publishing division. The story is described as an “erotic love comedy” about two high school students, Yuya and Mitsuki Kanzaki, whose parents have recently married. Mistuki has trouble adjusting to life with a new stepfather and brother, and is further shaken when Mr. Kanzaki is transferred overseas and her mother quickly decides to go with him, leaving Mitsuki alone with a boy she barely knows.
To make matters even worse, Mitsuki encounters the ghost of young woman named Hiyori who remembers little of her life beyond her unrequited love for Yuya. With those feelings keeping her trapped on Earth, Hiyori decides to use Mitsuki as the means to move into the afterlife. The spirit takes possession of Mitsuki’s body, locking the teenager in a magical chastity belt with a special sensor. Whenever Mitsuki has a sexual or romantic encounter with Yuya, the belt will bring Hiyori closer to the Gates of Heaven. But if Miysuki won’t cross the line with her stepbrother she will remain a prisoner of the chastity belt for the rest of her life…
While the two main characters are not blood relatives, the incestuous tone of the story led to complaints from parents when the RECENTLY, MY SISTER IS UNUSUAL. anime adaptation began airing in prime time on the Tokyo MX and SUN television stations on January 4, 2014. After the Broadcasting Ethics and Program Improvement Organization launched an investigation, the two stations moved the anime to post-midnight time slots. Episodes of RECENTLY, MY SISTER IS UNUSUAL are now being streamed in North America by Crunchyroll.
The live-action version, WHAT’S GOING ON WITH MY SISTER?, is directed by newcomer Yuki Aoyama. His fetish photographic collection Schoolgirl Complex (スクールガール コンプレックス 放送部篇, Sukurugaru Konpurekkusu Housoubu Hen, 2010) was adapted as a feature film in 2013.
Model and actress Tenka Hashimoto (aka Tenchim) plays Mitsuki Kanzaki. Born in Beijing to a Chinese mother and Japanese father, Hashimoto became an advertising model at age 8. She joined the NHK variety show TENSAI TV-KUN MAX (天才てれびくんMAX, Tensaiterebikun Makkusu) in 2004 and released two gravure idol photobooks, Jiyuugata (じゆーがた, 2005) and All Right (よし。, Yoshi, 2006), before becoming a fashion model.
Promotional materials for WHAT’S GOING ON WITH MY SISTER? announced that Hashimoto will have her first “full nude” scenes in the film. The actress also performs the movie’s theme song, “How’s It Going?”, in character as Mitsuki.
The ghost girl Hiyori is portrayed by the 24 year old gravure idol, Mayu. WHAT’S GOING ON WITH MY SISTER? is her first film, though Mayu has acted on stage and in television. As with Tenka Hashimoto, Mayu will appear nude onscreen for the first time in the movie.
Yuya Kanzaki is played by Yukichi Kobayashi, a young actor whose film credits include BLUE LABYRINTH (ブルーラビリンス, Buruurabirinsu, 2007), TSUBAKI SANJURO (椿三十郎, 2007) and RIVER (リバー, Ribaa, 2012).
Kadokawa promises that the film’s climax will shock fans of the manga.
